ZOOLOGY

Zoology is one of the branches of pure sciences dealing with the studies of animal kingdom. It encompasses various areas such as taxonomy, developmental biology, genetics, physiology, evolution, ecology, biochemistry, as well as applied biology disciplines like biotechnology, bioinformatics, forensic science, and many others. The subject can be studied through various innovative ways such as experiential learning, problem-based learning, collaborative learning in addition to the traditional mode of learning.

About the Department

Zoology department was started in 1952. The department encourages students to actively participate in various academic as well as co-curricular and outreach activities. To enhance experiential learning, the department organizes field trips and nature walks to the national parks, local zoo and aquarium. It incorporates interactive teaching-learning methodologies including ICT. The department has spacious laboratory and infrastructure for research studies. Both the staff members are recognized by University of Mumbai for Postgraduate teaching for Animal Physiology specialization. Zoology department is also recognized for Ph.D. and currently six research scholars are pursuing their doctoral thesis in the area of toxicology. It is an ongoing endeavor of the department to make the subject enjoyable and interesting to study.
