PhD PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
• To impart an in-depth knowledge of research methods and research methodology that would equip the researchers to undertake challenging research problems for societal benefits.
• To gain expertise in core subject of the research discipline to bridge the gaps in specific research skills
• To orient the researchers to the ethics in research and publication and also to the good laboratory practices that serve as a foundation for quality research.
• To enhance ICT skills for research analysis and presentation • To provide opportunity to get involved in the research related activities within the institution.
PhD PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES:
• Researchers would be able to carry out systematic research study independently by developing the research outline with a well-structured experimental design.
• Researchers would gather comprehensive knowledge about the field of research through extensive literature reading and course work
• Researchers would demonstrate academic integrity by carrying out ethical research practices and by using plagiarism detection software tools, giving appropriate citations and acknowledgements and all such governing norms.
• Researchers would be able to prepare themselves for a productive research career by publishing research papers, presentations at research conferences, and writing grant proposals.
• Researchers would participate in various academic activities that promote scientific aptitude such as workshops, interdisciplinary research seminars, popular science article writing, etc. demonstrating the values of our institutional research culture.
PhD RESEARCH CENTRE:
The Suman Tulsiani Research Centre was set up with the kind donation from Mrs. Suman Tulsiani in 2008. The research centre is a recognised for Ph.D. program under University of Mumbai in the subjects of Applied Biology, Microbiology and Zoology.
The research centre is equipped with high-end equipment purchased from several grants awarded to the college, including DST-FIST, UGC Innovative program, Star College and RUSA, and is used as a common research facility by all science departments.
It includes:
• A fully functional animal tissue culture facility with a biosafety cabinet and CO2 incubator
• A microscopy facility with a cryostat, fluorescence microscopes, stereo microscopes and an inverted microscope.
• A molecular biology research lab with all basic equipment including PCR and RT-PCR and gel documentation system.
It also houses a conference room for meetings and presentations, four departmental research laboratories and a preparation room.
The research centre has a separate facility for zebrafish housing and maintenance which is registered under CCSEA (formerly CPCSEA), MoEF&CC, Govt. of India. Registration no. 1936/PO/Re/S/17/CPCSEA.
